The Hunting of the Catnap Vibe (with apologies to Lewis Carroll)

(to be read aloud to the sound of deadlines fast-approaching)

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the deadly lines outgrabe.

“Beware the Catnap Vibe, my son!
The urge that snores, the dreams that trap!
Beware the Distraction bird, and shun
The frumious Vibe Catnap!”

He took his coffee mug in hand:
Long time the deadline close he sought–
Until he paused by the coffee pot,
And roamed awhile in thought.

And as in plottish thought he mused,
The Catnap Vibe, with not a hint of shame,
Came stepping through papers much-abused,
And purring as it came!

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The coffee mug was quick refilled!
He dodged the Vibe, and wide awake
His editor he thrilled.

“And hast thou slain the Catnap Vibe?
You shally a deadline make this day!
O frabjous news! Callooh! Callay!”
He chortled in his joy.

‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the deadly lines outgrabe.

(obviously, all credit for the original goes to Lewis Carroll. And yes, I’m terribly terribly sorry.)
